Paul Manz is a leader in healthcare analytics based upon more than 30 years of extensive experience in healthcare cost management and consulting for payers, providers and employers. As The Vydahl Group’s Managing Partner, Paul integrates healthcare consulting with partnership and investment opportunities. Recently he co-authored a report for AHPI (American Health Policy Institute), studying wasteful spending. The report reviewed $10 billion in healthcare claims finding $2 billion in savings opportunities.
Paul’s recent client experience includes Pioneer ACO model development, major payer contracting, the design of actionable information, cost containment solutions, P4P quality & efficiency based reimbursement payer models, ROI methodologies, payer contracting, and providing leadership in the management of quality & efficiency metrics benchmarks. Including report design of key metrics based upon CMS data files & coordination with CMS for aggregate reinsurance protection.
Prior to Vydahl, Paul supported fluidEDGE as the Practice Leader of Informatics & Reimbursement and served as the President of Healthcare Strategic Solutions (HCSS), a healthcare consulting company providing cutting edge health plan and self insured employer based financial management, provider contracting arrangements and state of the art analysis reporting systems. Paul has been responsible for the contracting and design for a Pioneer ACO, contract rate negotiations for hospitals, ICD-10 DRG impact analysis, disease management, ROI analysis, and ACO contracting models with all major payers.
Before HCSS, Paul was the Vice President of Provider Contracting & Reimbursement for Independence Blue Cross (IBC). His responsibilities included the strategic design and contracting implementation of a $6 billion healthcare fund.
Paul also served as the Division Director of Actuarial & Statistical Services for an Anthem Plan. During his tenure, he was responsible for managed care financial forecasting, large group pricing, underwriting and provider payment risk based systems, as well as the financial management of health plans.
Paul served as the President of a leading national consulting firm that specialized in the use of large scale data based systems for providers, payers and reinsurers in the support of actuarial, reimbursement and reporting infrastructures. Under his leadership, he implemented initial internet based “drill down” reporting systems and “severity adjusted” risk sharing methods.
Paul holds a degree in Business from Villanova University and an MBA in Healthcare Administration/Finance from Temple University.
Paul currently serves on the Executive Committee of Friends Life Care Board of Directors; Chairman Finance Committee, FLC; and Advisor to Friends Life Care Partners.
